A World in Science
The place to get and ask the all important science questions that you need to know. You never know what you will get each week on this post. Might get from mounting a herbarium to listen the mating calls of the Dodo bird.

Alys-on Wonderland?
Okay friends. This was a podcast me and my funky crew of friends did for a class. We would have used it to teach the effects of illicit drugs and what could happen. It came out funny but it essentially covered the basics of what we wanted to impart to students. Feel free to use it if you an find something to use it for. Personally, I think it was aawweesome sauce!!!! Check it out.

A Sample of a Grant Proposal
This is a sample Grant proposal that i drafted to submit for my students. I hope it helpful for you and feel free to comment if some improvement is need. Enjoy!!

Grant Proposal
Topic: Exploring the Universe
My name is Adero Forsythe and I am a teacher for an Earth
Science class at Hillcrest High School. Teaching Earth Science in a world
filled with IPads, the internet and YouTube is not an easy thing to do. Students
are more interested in Facebook and the gizmo and gadget world. I admit that
Earth Science can be a dry topic sometimes and to get the students motivated,
it would help to have some gizmo and gadget of our own to facilitate this. What
would be needed would be six computers where students can work in groups on
simulation with 3D models. Having the resource to take at least one field trip
per semester would be beneficial. Taking a field trip to let’s say an
observatory would bring to life all the topics we talk about in Astronomy and
it will no longer be abstract on a piece of paper. The proposed budget for this endeavor is
$20,000 dollars. This will cover the six computers along with accessory
equipment such as software and maintenance, and it will also cover field trip
for the students for at least two years academia. The field trips would be to
the Rutherford Observatory, mining sites, or even sites that do frapping, which
is a modern concern for today’s generation. Having a close up look at the
process and experience these things first hand will be beneficial. My students
should improve in higher order thinking and be able to better write about a
topic since they witness these events first hand. Having them act like
reporters to me will also be another way to judge how their minds work, and
what they pay attention to. I expect them to ask better questions in class
instead of the basic run of the mills and whys. I want to hear question like
what would happen if….. and offer solutions to the problems that they can
identify. If would be greatly beneficial to my classroom and school for you to
consider my proposal. If more
information is required, my contact information is available below.
Sincerely,
Adero Forsythe

Weird Nature!!
The plant world is one of the most diverse branch of biology. It is amazing some of the colours, scents, mechanisms and adaptation that they come up with. For example, some flowers such as the orchid, the Ophrys speculum, have this mechanism in where it mimics the female bee in shape and feel of body and in scent of pheromones, to attract the male bee. The male bee receives this come hither signal and lands on the orchid, gets a STIMULATING high, and goes away with a load of pollen stuck to its body ready to transfer to another flower with out knowing he was having RELATIONS with a plant!! Can you imagine?!! Now gents aren't you glad you are not that bee? Enjoy nature y'all, it can be very entertaining and insightful.

Space: The Final Frontier
This just in from a CNN report. NASA just announced that they have found seven new planets, three in the habitable zone an four not in that zone. Now to me this is amazing!!! However, if you are like me and the only space jargon you know are from star wars and star trek ( you know who you are!!) and are clueless to space jargon here are some facts;
DID you know,
DID you know,
- the habitable zone is the area near a star in which a planet can theoretically hold liquid water.
- The star's planets are designated by letters after the star's name.
- A light-year, the distance that light travels in a vacuum in one year, is nearly 6 trillion miles.
- The smaller a planet is, the more likely it's rocky and the less likely it's made of gas,
- If scientists' notions of a "habitable zone" were applied to our own solar system, both Earth and Mars would fit the bill. But Mars doesn't have enough gravity to hold onto an atmosphere that could heat it.
This is all cool stuff! I wish that i can live for the next 5oo years to see how human technology evolves. Can you imagine us being able to travel in light years, or design equipment to see how habitable a planet is!! It blows my mind every time. There is a planet 20 light years away from earth that is though to be habitable!! i can totally see myself traveling in space from twenty years just to go and have a see, lol. if you are interested in the article click the link below and enjoy the journey your imagination takes you.

Samhain or All Souls day?
Did you know the origin of Halloween has a colourful history. It is believed that in the early Celtic culture, this time of the year signaled the begging of the dark parts of the year and the ending of the light part of the year. It was believed that the spirits of the dead and of fairies can cross over and visit loved ones or cause harm depending on their preference. The costumes was originally to disguise yourself from the spirits so they would not harm you. So moral of the story, have fun but beware the ghouls out there, * They could be watching!!!* *low whisper*
